SpaceXAI is the AI business of SpaceX. It began as xAI, which Elon Musk launched in 2023 to build the Grok chatbot and models, and which later absorbed the social network X. SpaceX acquired xAI on 2 February 2026 in an all-stock deal that valued xAI at $250 billion and SpaceX at $1 trillion. The business has since been renamed SpaceXAI, and SpaceX listed on Nasdaq in June 2026.
Grok is available in its own apps, inside X and through an API. The latest model, Grok 4.7, was released on 21 September 2026 and is aimed at coding and office work. Grok 4.5, released in July, was trained alongside the coding company Cursor, which SpaceX bought for $60 billion in August 2026. Grok Bot, launched in August 2026, runs teams of AI agents that carry out longer tasks on cloud computers.
More than 50 researchers and engineers left in the months after the merger, including some of xAI's co-founders. In January 2026 Grok drew worldwide criticism after it was used to create sexualised images of real women and children on X.
