TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) makes chips designed by other companies. It pioneered the "pure-play foundry" model, in which it manufactures only its customers' products and sells no chips of its own. In 2025 it made 12,682 products for 534 customers using 305 process technologies. Its fabs are in Taiwan, China, the United States and Japan, with a plant under construction in Dresden, Germany, and annual capacity exceeded 17 million 12-inch-equivalent wafers in 2025.
In the second quarter of 2026 chips made at 7 nanometres and below accounted for 77% of wafer revenue, including 30% from its 3-nanometre process and 3% from 2-nanometre production, which the company says is in a steep ramp-up.
Morris Chang founded TSMC in 1987. It is based in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and led by C.C. Wei, chairman and chief executive. Its shares trade in Taipei and, as American depositary receipts, in New York. For the second quarter of 2026 it reported revenue of US$40.2 billion, up 33.7% from a year earlier, and it guided to US$44.6 to 45.8 billion for the third quarter.
