Runway is an AI company based in New York that builds video generation and editing tools. It was founded in 2018 by Cristóbal Valenzuela, Anastasis Germanidis and Alejandro Matamala-Ortiz; Valenzuela and Germanidis are co-chief executives. Its customers are concentrated in film, television, advertising and media, including the BBC, Fremantle and WPP.
Runway's best-known products are its Gen video models, currently Gen-4.5, alongside Aleph, a model for editing and transforming existing video. In December 2025 it released its first world model, GWM-1. World models are AI systems that simulate environments, and Runway now treats them as central to its future, including work it sells to robotics companies.
Runway raised a $315 million Series E in February 2026 at a $5.3 billion valuation, in a round led by General Atlantic with NVIDIA and AMD Ventures among the investors. It works with Adobe, which has early access to its models, and has raised about $860 million in total. It has offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, London, Paris, Tel Aviv and Tokyo, and in June 2026 it announced a major London expansion.
