Physical Intelligence is a San Francisco company that builds AI models to control robots. Its aim is a single general-purpose model that can run on different machines and handle many tasks, which co-founder Sergey Levine, a UC Berkeley professor, has likened to ChatGPT for robots. Karol Hausman is chief executive, and investor Lachy Groom is a co-founder. The company has said it has no timeline for selling products.
Its models are known as the π series. It has released earlier versions, π0 and π0.5, with code and model checkpoints through its openpi repository, which is published under the Apache 2.0 licence. In April 2026 it published π0.7, which it says can carry out tasks it was not explicitly trained on when coached step by step in plain language.
Physical Intelligence has raised more than $1 billion. It was valued at $5.6 billion in late 2025 and was reported in March 2026 to be in talks to raise about $1 billion more at a valuation above $11 billion. In July 2026 reports said Anthropic had held acquisition talks with the company; its chief executive told staff the reports were not true.
