NVIDIA designs the graphics processing units (GPUs), networking and software widely used to train and run large AI models. Its CUDA platform, introduced in 2006, lets developers program GPUs for general computing. It sells whole data-centre systems built around its Blackwell GPUs and the newer Vera Rubin platform, which is now in full production, along with the Vera CPU.

Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem founded the company in April 1993, and Huang leads it as chief executive. It is based in Santa Clara, California, and had about 42,000 employees at the end of its 2026 financial year. For the quarter ended 26 July 2026 it reported revenue of $96.2 billion, of which $89.0 billion came from data centres.

NVIDIA is also extending into inference chips and open models. Inference means running trained models to produce answers. It holds an intellectual property licence for Groq's inference technology and now produces the Groq 3 LPX inference accelerator. On 2 September 2026 it agreed to buy Hugging Face for about $11.9 billion plus up to about $1 billion in staff retention awards, a deal expected to close in the first half of 2027.
