Cursor is an AI code editor and coding agent made by Anysphere, a company started in 2022 by four MIT students, among them Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif and Aman Sanger. Developers use it to write, edit and review code with AI models. Its agents can search a codebase, change files and carry out multi-step programming tasks from plain-language instructions, locally or in the cloud. Alongside models from other labs it offers its own coding model, Composer.
Cursor became one of the most widely used AI coding tools. By 2026 it had more than a million daily users and about 300 employees, and it counts many large companies among its customers. It raised $2.3 billion in late 2025.
In April 2026 SpaceX announced a partnership with Cursor that gave it the option to buy the company for $60 billion in stock. SpaceX agreed the purchase in June, and the deal closed on 14 August 2026. Cursor now sits within SpaceXAI, the AI division SpaceX built around xAI, and uses SpaceX computing capacity to train its models. Michael Truell is chief executive.
