ASML designs and builds lithography machines, which use light to print circuit patterns on silicon wafers, along with metrology, inspection and computational lithography tools. Its extreme ultraviolet (EUV) systems print with light of 13.5 nanometres, a technology the company describes as unique to ASML. Chipmakers use its EUV machines to make the most advanced chips, including those used for AI.
Its EUV range includes the NXE systems and the newer High-NA EXE:5000 and EXE:5200B, which print finer features. It also sells deep ultraviolet (DUV) systems for less advanced layers. In July 2026 ASML said it plans to add about 30% to its EUV and DUV immersion capacity in 2027.
ASML was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, with more than 44,000 full-time-equivalent staff across over 60 locations. Christophe Fouquet has been president and chief executive since April 2024. In the second quarter of 2026 ASML reported net sales of €9.3 billion and net income of €2.9 billion, and it expects 2026 net sales of €43 to 45 billion.
