Anthropic is an AI safety and research company that builds the Claude family of models and the products around them, including the Claude apps and Claude Code, a tool that writes and edits software. It was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI staff led by the siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei. It is a public benefit corporation, and an independent Long-Term Benefit Trust has the power to choose some of its board members.

The company is known for its research into making models safe and understanding how they work inside, and for strong coding models. Its current frontier models, released on 1 September 2026, are Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1. They are the same model with different safeguards: Fable 5.1 is generally available, including through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, while Mythos 5.1 is offered only through trusted access programmes for cybersecurity and life-science work.

In May 2026 Anthropic raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation. On 1 June 2026 it confidentially filed draft papers with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a stock market listing.
