OpenAI released GPT-5.5 in ChatGPT and in Codex, its coding agent, describing it as a model for coding, research, data analysis and tool use with less human help. Paid ChatGPT plans got it first, with a Pro version for higher tiers. The API, which developers use to build it into their own products, followed a day later with a one-million-token context window (how much text it can take in at once).
